Our Programs
Our programs include coaching for peak athletic performance and treatment of the emotional, mental, and spiritual suffering of the athlete related to sport injuries.
Sports Performance
Robert works with the inner world of the athlete. He helps the athlete achieve a state of mental strength, clarity, and focus and build resilience, and competitive fierceness. Athletes remove blocks that inhibit peak performance and unleash the natural power of the athlete. With a clear mind, heart, and spirit athletes move through performance ceilings and achieve flow athletic experiences consistently.
“As an elite gymnast my goal is to represent the United States in the 2008 Olympics. To achieve this goal I know it is imperative that I have my mind, body and Spirit working as one. This is where the great work of Robert Andrews comes into play. With his guidance and wisdom I have been able to align these three components and take my gymnastics to another level as I make my Olympic push. I am forever grateful to have Robert’s guidance as I pursue my Olympic dream.”

Sports Injuries
Treatment for sports injury trauma usually only examines the physical component to the athletic injury leaving the emotional, mental, and spiritual suffering the athlete endures largely untreated. In his work with sports related injuries, ISP empowers the athlete to break through this unresolved, sometimes unexamined, and often times complex aspect of athletic injuries. Whether returning to their particular sport, or moving on to the next phase of life, athletes reclaim confidence, focus, intensity, and move to a place of understanding, and acceptance of their injury.
Athletic injuries vary in their severity and the length of recovery. When an athlete undergoes any type of sports injury there is a standard order of care provided to the injured athlete. Each sprained ankle, knee injury, dislocated shoulder, or serious fall is evaluated by the team trainer, if further care is required; the athlete visits a massage therapist, physical therapist, physician, chiropractor, or orthopedic surgeon.
After an athlete has rehabilitated from an injury and is cleared to play they are labeled as 100%. Many expect the athlete to quickly return to their previous level of performance. If the athlete is slow to come around they are sometimes labeled as “head cases”, or written off, which can lead to more trauma. Unresolved issues from the injury and fear of re-injury are the key components that must be addressed for an athlete to be truly “100%” fit to perform. This dynamic has been neglected in the recovery process for decades. It is the mission of ISP to help the athlete heal on all levels, not just the physical.
“I have had ups and downs mentally and physically in the sport of gymnastics. Robert's sports psychology work has helped me let go of the injuries and disappointments I've had in my career, and has helped me focus on the accomplishments that I have experienced and the ones that are soon to come. I consider Robert Andrews my personal "mind" trainer and a friend I can talk to."

“I injured my knee early in the season. The pain from surgery was incredibly difficult to get through, but the anger I experienced watching the whole season go by without me being able to play was unbearable. Robert helped me work through the injury itself, but also helped me put the loss of that season behind me, and focus on the joy of the game again. I am performing with more fierceness and determination now, than before the injury. I also feel like I am playing smarter because Robert helped me see where I was wasting mental and physical focus and energy in practice and in games.”

Sports Injury Spectrum of Severity
Intense Pain • Requires Time Off • Physical Therapy and Rehab • Surgery and Rehab • Career Threatening • Career Ending
No matter where the injury falls on this spectrum the athlete undergoes an intense mental, emotional, and spiritual crisis when injured. Athletes experience intense pain accompanied by fear, anger, terror, and grief. Sometime the reaction can be so intense it can be labeled as traumatic to the athlete.
Robert works with the injured athlete to help them understand and work through the intense reaction to the sports injury.
As an athlete moves along the spectrum of care and attention the intensity of these emotional states increases. Put simply, the worse the news around the injury, the worse the traumatic reaction the athlete experiences.
Robert’s work with athletes helps them overcome the traumatic residue of each injury. Through their work with Robert, athletes return to their power center, leaving behind fear of re-injury, and regaining mental, emotional, and spiritual strength, stability, and courage.

“My coach suggested I work with Robert after I suffered a knee injury. I had lost confidence in my game, and he thought Robert could help me get back to where I was. My work with Robert helped regain my confidence and work through the injury. I am grateful for his work with athletes. It has had a huge impact on my game, and my life.”
